なぜミツロウを塗るとよいのか
ニホンミツバチの分蜂群は、別の群が棲んだ後の巣穴や巣箱に好んで入居する習性があります。そのため待ち箱を仕掛ける際に、古い営巣の痕跡を模してミツロウを塗り、匂い付けをすると誘引効果が高いのです。

ミツロウはこすりつける?溶かして塗る?

どちらの方法で塗っても効果があります。しかしこすりつける方法は、気温が10度台の寒い時期にはミツロウが硬すぎてなかなかうまくいきません。ドライヤーやアイロンで巣箱の側を温めておくなどの工夫が必要です。屋外に置いた巣箱にミツロウを塗るには家電製品は使えません。カセットボンベ式バーナーを使ってミツロウを溶かして塗るのが一般的です。

忘れてはいけないもう一つのポイント
ミツロウを塗ったら、ミツバチが見つけやすいように巣門を少し広めに開けておいてください。(通常6mmを10mmていどに)
